About two hours outside of Denver yesterday, we noticed the voltage meter showing our battery power in the van going steadily downward. It did not seem to recharge as it should while driving. Quite the opposite. We watched it get lower and lower as we approached Denver, with alert lights flashing and we were inching along in traffic hoping we could make the last three miles to the hotel. Finally all electronics went out...Just before we pulled into the hotel parking lot. We made it.
However, we had to have the van towed to a dealer, where we learned that the alternator was kaput. The dealership people were amazingly helpful. They had to order the new alternator, had it shipped overnight, and gave us a rental car to use until the next day.
The van was fixed and ready to go this morning. So what could've been a pretty major problem did not end up being too bad. We are so glad we didn't end up stuck on the side of the Kansas highway!
WOW! That was fortunate (if it had to happen at all!) How wonderful to find kind, helpful people at times like that! Happy 4th to you all!
