Friday 7-4

We left Denver and drove to Estes Park, about 2 hours away in the mountains. Once we got up to the mountains the drive was very pretty, though we saw evidence of the damage from the fall floods. The town of Estes is a popular mountain town at 8,500 feet elevation. It seemed like Camden of the Rockies. It was very crowded due the 4th holiday, so we drove through to our campground. 

The campground was terrific, it was bordering Rocky Mountain National Park. We had a big campsite and set up our tent. The air was pleasantly cool. 

We went on a short afternoon hike in the hills by the campground and into the Park. We saw wildflowers and pretty views. 

We tried out our camp stove, making couscous for dinner. Overnight we had a thunderstorm and it cooled down so we were even a little cold during the night. Kelly had a headache from the high elevation.
